Over the last decade, attention has been given to the loss of control inflight (LOC-I) category of incident, which have some times been a consequence of airplane upsets and other human factors. Presently, suggestions on the probable causes of LOC are that unconscious defensive responses to a “startle” stimulus impacts on decision making and therefore the upset recovery performance of flight crew. Considering this, our founder, Dr. Abiodun Yusuf (Phd) has conducted research that explores startle responses of the pilot to a sudden loss of situation awareness, in particular, with the use of eye-tracking and the assessment of human factors.

The International Joint Conference on Neural Networks in Budapest, Hungary. We will be discussing current work we are conducting. Abiodun Yusuf (CTO) will be presenting a paper and discussing aspects of the approach which looks at the issue of startle causality as a precursr to loss of control (LOC), using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps and Pupillometric considerations.
